A crowd of students gathered on the Theron Montgomery Building lawn on Wednesday afternoon, where Mason Myrick and Lauren Watson were named Homecoming King and Queen, respectively.
The 2019 Homecoming Queen, Abbie Beatty, announced the winners after the presentation of the Homecoming Court by SGA President Jerod Sharp and Vice President of Student Senate Cindy Danini.
“Congratulations to all of those who participated in the Homecoming Court and to our finalists and to our newly elected King and Queen,” said JSU President Don Killingsworth. “We look forward to seeing you at the football game this weekend.”
Watson, a junior majoring in nursing, is of the Honors College, Phi Mu sorority and is a Gamecock Orientation leader.
“I’m very grateful for this opportunity and all the students who voted,” said Watson.
Myrick shares a lot in common with Watson, as he is also a junior majoring in nursing, a member of the Honors College and a Gamecock Orientation leader. Myrick is also a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity.
“It’s great to see everyone here who supported us and we’re excited for Saturday,” said Myrick.
Both were crowned by Killingsworth on stage. An uproar of cheering could be heard as both students accepted their crowns.
The Homecoming game against the Mercer Bears takes place this Saturday, Oct. 10. It will start at 2 p.m. and the winners will once again be announced and crowned during halftime.
