JSU continued their undefeated OVC streak by sweeping UT Martin Sunday. The wins stretched the Gamecocks’ streak to 14-0, the best OVC start in JSU history. JSU started strong in the first game as they routed the Skyhawks 4-0.
The Gamecocks scored their first run in the top of the second inning.
Emily Woodruff singled to the right, which allowed Emily Church the chance to run home for the score. UTM struggled through the bottom of the second and handed it back over to the Gamecocks in the third.
Church homered early in the inning for the Gamecocks’ second run, giving the Gamecocks a 2-0 lead over the Skyhawks. Again they scored nothing in the bottom of the third.
The Gamecocks scored their two remaining runs unearned. Anna Chisolm scored one on a fielding error.
Ella Denes took the fourth and final run for the Gamecocks after a Jamie McGuire single.
Whitney Gillespie was able to shut out UTM on three singles and recorded four strikeouts as well.
Taylor West allowed only one run on her three singles and recorded eight strikeouts. The Gamecocks won the second game of the day 2-1 completing their sweep.
JSU’s only two runs came early in the game. The top of the first saw McGuire single to the left.
Stephanie Lewis and Jordan Bullock both advanced and sent Denes home for the first run.
Moments later, Church flied out to center, which gave Bullock the second and final run for the Gamecocks.
The Skyhawks made an attempt to avenge their loss earlier in the day but to no avail.
Their only run of the game came four innings later in the bottom of the fifth. Allie Fulcher stole home and took the run. Neither team scored again. West contained the hitters of UTM until the third inning.
The Skyhawks only had multiple hits in the fifth inning, where two singles helped to cut the Gamecocks’ lead to only one.
The Gamecocks play non-conference opponent Alabama A&` today at 5.
After that they play a three-game set against OVC opponent Morehead State where they hope to continue their undefeated streak.
