With the beginning of a new semester, the annual Spirit on Mountain Street Festival will return. Several events happen in conjunction with Spirit on Mountain Street Festival, including “Taste of the Town,” Jacksonville State University Fan Day, and performances from local musicians.
This year, the fun begins at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday August 23, with performances from Riley Green, Blake Flood, Tim Johnson and Kim Nichols, and Tony Irby. Artists will continue to perform until 6:30 p.m.
At 3 p.m. in Stephenson Hall, JSU Fan Day will start with a meet-and-greet featuring the Jacksonville State Gamecocks football team and will continue with “Taste of the Town” from 4-6 p.m. Tickets for “Taste of the Town” can be purchased on site and will cost $10 for 10 tickets. Each ticket can be redeemed for a small portion from some of over 40 local restaurants that will be represented. At the same time, Jacksonville Exchange Club will be sponsoring Kids Zone, proceeds from which will go to help end child abuse.
Immediately following “Taste of the Town will be the annual pre-season pep rally, featuring bands from the surrounding area and, of course, JSU’s very own Gamecocks. After the pep rally, the last pre-season scrimmage will take place.
Also happening during the Spirit on Mountain Street Festival will be the JSU Glow Dash, a fun run on Dillon Field that will donate all proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Hospital to support cancer research. Pre-register online at active.com or register the day of the race.
